Brains vs Brawn? What Is Needed To Compete Like An Elite Thrower

Hello Arete Nation. When I am in California, I tend to stay at my buddy- Rutger Smith’s place while I run all over Orange County coaching shot put and discus, running camps, and over seeing our ATN headquarters in Laguna Niguel.

Rutger Smith is a 3X world medalist, 3X Olympian…(soon to be 4X Olympian), and the ONLY thrower in history to ever medal in both shot put and discus at World Championships…. He is truly one of the greatest throwers ever!

Each time I’m at Rutger’s place we have great conversations about the throws, and then it hit me…

“Why the hell am I not recording all this great info and sharing it with the A- Nation?”

So this time I did…

…and it’s awesome.

This new series of interviews we are calling “Between Throws” and we will kick it all off with Rutger!

In this episode Rutger Smith and I talk about what mindset is needed in order to crush it in comps, I reveal a powerful coaching tip pre-comp, and does a lot of practice make perfect?

Since Rutger and I never tire on the topic of the throws, we ended up talking for a long time. So, I had to break apart the interview into 6 parts.
