As the days go by, and you are faking that you understand the positions in each stage of a throw…
… you will start to slip farther and farther away from the truth and any real throwing potential for either yourself or your athletes will fade as bad habits begin to form technically, mentally, and even in strength levels.
Listen, I get it!
You spend hours of your time, going through hundreds of videos on YouTube, trying to decide if what you are looking at is correct, can you apply it with your athletes, or maybe your writing down lots of different coaching points and hoping one of them works-
but it never does.
I believe everyone values 1 thing… Sure , we all value health and money, but even more than that is
Time is so valuable because we live in a 365/24hr world.
Everyone wants everything now, and that includes results!
So, as coaches & athletes, the pressure is on to make that happen.
How many times have you looked at your throw squad and it was like the Bad News Bears, and you have 2 weeks until the first meet to make miracles happen?
So you start digging into countless throws coaching videos on the internet searching for a fast track solutions to your problem.
In fact, to all you older coaches out there…. remember when your work day ended when your work day ended???
Now, we all deal with emails, you’re engaged in social media looking at throws, cats and other peoples food…
and then you find yourself going from one YouTube video after another
Perhaps taking notes
Trying to interpret what you just saw and heard
Thinking of how you are going to shove that into your tiny window of coaching time.
For you athletes out there, time is also a legit issue….
You may be coming directly off another sport, and have to switch gears overnight, and start throwing, but you’re all rusty… maybe even nursing an injury!
TIME IS A LEGIT REALITY TO THROWING!
Now, many coaching programs are really strained with time:
District rules of how long you can train an athlete
You might have to share a weight room with other sports
Hell, you may not have a weight room!
Your training time can be short due to weather
Or you are waiting for some of your throwers to get out of their other sport- like football before you can start preseason training.
Another factor is that many of your throws squads have many different levels of abilities
Different strength levels
…and in 2019- different attention levels
I believe you are here to not just learn about shot put and discus technique, but you are here to find more information on HOW to coach the throws more
Get the most out of each and every minute you are in the ring
And most importantly get results- FAST!
Before I start going into lots of tactical info on the discus, you must also understand this….
LACK OF PATIENCE = BAD HABITS
This is not a sport of short cuts.
Everyone, from coach to thrower, has to not just be interested in the throws, but dedicated to it- that is a much different mindset!
So, I can write and talk about technique for 60 min or so, but understand this….
You have to have a way to take this information and structure it into a solid throws program that is repeatable all season long year after year….. and build on it.
The Throwing Chain Reaction™ (TCR™) is a true throwing system….
…. a 6 pillar system™ to be exact!
It’s not a bunch of Youtube videos patched together like a quilt of confusion, but a full system that is continually growing and getting bigger every season. The TCR™ not only teaches the science of the throws, but it also teaches you how to actually apply the science step by step.
You will quickly see that the key to a successful throws program is communication & a strong understanding of the science- aka technique.
A throw happens in 2 seconds.
That’s faster than the average pro QB releases a ball… even faster than Tom Brady!
So how the hell are you going to see the throw in its entirety, and then coach where in the throw needs adjustment?
If you find yourself saying something like this at a practice:
“Hey, you didn’t turn your foot in the power position. Turn your foot more.”
“Hey, your chest was too forward, Get your chest up!”
“When you turn your leg and your arm is at this level, you need to turn this…”
… and then you spend another 15 min explaining further what you mean; there is a lot lost in translation.
However, with the TCR™, you have terminology that you and your entire throw squad use, so you end up coaching more like this:
“ Hey Joe, in Pillar 3, you cut off the sweep and so that stops your rotation into the middle so you slow down and it becomes impossible to rotate your right foot in the power position.”
When you follow the TCR™ you are given terminology, that makes it much easier for you and the athlete to identify where in the throw needs adjustments and further work.
And let’s be honest here… in today’s society, where time is king… less words = more retention- and better results!
